Well it is official, just bought the 55 in VT that I have been talking about in other threads. Here are the specifics: Floor is going to need replacing, at least the front pans, there is one through spot were the tire carrier would go on the pass side, driver's side rocker panel has a small rust spot through the panel, other than that all other rust is pure surface rust, no bondo that I could find, title claims actual mileage is 12,400 working speedo shows 13k and change... I truly believe this is a 13k mile all original jeep. It has a brand new gas tank, new painless kit so jeep is 12v, new elec fuel pump but all orig fuel system is intact. Rear pto, 12 pack leaf springs, twin stick t/c, 3 speed. VIN Plate and dash stickers are present. the 134 runs very well for something that has not been run since summer. I do not have any more pics yet but will has soon as I get this home. This will be restoration back to stock specs, or as close as I can get it, I have untill Jan 6th 2010 to get this done.... I will be posting a ton of questions and pics along the way. Oh and I paid 2k........ good deal, or just a so so deal?

Sounds like a great price for an unmolested Jeep. Are you planning on a full resto like museum quality?

This will not be "museum" quality, but it will be as close to orig as we can get it, but still be a nice weekend cruiser. The plan is to hand the keys to my dad on his 55th. He is already aware of the purchase, but he does not know the real reason behind it

I should have it in the garage next weekend hopefully, if not then by mid week at the latest. Tons of documentation and pics will follow this one. Hey Duke, since you do such awsome work (kisses up a little more) How much for me to drop off a stripped tub and pick it up when it's done  I pay with cash and tip with

    Comparison to my 55...
So that's why I have the funny dip in the top bar on the trailer hitch.... No PTO in mine (at least not when I got it). Same color, Roll bar looks kinda like yours too. Did they come stock with the F134? Mine has an L head in it.
Oh and you have a heater. Mine doesn't.

When you get five minutes I'd like to know what they did on those seats. The PO took out the factory ones out on mine and the steering wheel is almost in my gut.

mdeck, no problem on the seats, the po welded up some brackets, those seats are going ot go, I will be going back to stock with this one, also the roll bar is not correct, looks like it is from a mid 70's 5 but I could be wrong

T'aint no such thing as a "correct" roll bar for a '55, AFAIK, wern't even available as an aftermarket item. If you wanted one in those days (if anyone had even though of it then) it would be a custom job. That being said it appears to me that the "first" generation of roll bars generally had the rear supports with a 90 degree bend in'em running to about halfway up the verticals rather than straight supports runnning at a straight (45 degree?) angle up to the cross piece.

I'd say the newer style is probably a lot stronger, but then again I think the early bars were mostly sold as "appearance" items anyhow.

My 55 has a roll bar but it's basically just bolted on to the body.

Yup, but I'll guarantee it wasn't on there in '55 :) In fact I'd say that, per my earlier post, yours has a distinct "custom" look to it

There's been a few videos of early '50's news reels shown up on here a few times in the last year or so showing a jeep club outing (remember the white wall tires?), not a roll bar in site. There was also recently a picture taken sometime in the late 50's of a street filled side to side with parked jeeps, likewise not a rollbar in site. I'm really thinking (actually Wild Assed Guessing) that roll bars didn't start showing up until the early-mid 60's, apparently they weren't a factory installed part until 1980.
