Should there be a actual fitting?

Yep drain is a little bigger, and has a bit of an emboss around the fitting. The connection to the engine has a tube on the inside that is just a bit above the bottom of the tank. This keeps heavy gunk from clogging the line that feeds the motor.
I wound up using the drain to feed my engine swap. The fitting I used has a cone strainer.

i dunno, but the tank on mine was uncapped and disconnected when i first got it, had been for years. there was also a rodent nest in the toolbox, so i can only imagine whats in there... should probably take the time to drain and clean it out. already destroyed 1 fuel filter.

Like Howard, I put firing strips under my tank, it centered the fill neck in the hole better for the gasket around the neck. It will let you blow out the sand and water build up under the tank. I put a valve in the drain hole, it is safe up inside the frame rails, with a barbed fitting for a hose so I could drain gas out if I needed some gas for something else. Just a suggestion, Good luck

Yep, bought the same one. Other hole has a pick-up tube brazed into it, goes about 5 inches into the tank, with pick-up just outside of the slight detent where the drain plug is. For bottom gas feed. V6 has pick-up and return lines that go through the top of the tank. I had the small (unplugged) hole welded shut, just be careful that you don't loose the brazing and introduce a leak.

Thanks. Mines a V6 but not original as it’s a 198 Fireball. No return line set up. Maybe I need to do that in the future. We’ll see how it goes when I get it all back together. Did get a new seal too.

Now trying to find fitting for fuel line. I think it’s a 1/4 but not sure....yet

good luck, I couldn't figure out just what size, I think closest I found was a 7/16 x 1/4 bolt (would go in about 1-2 threads). Initial plan was to try and install a plug instead of weld.

The tank fuel fitting is a regualar SAE flared piece, cant recal if it's 3/16 or 1/4. I ended up making one out of odds & ends..

1/4 flare tube fitting was my solution for the fuel fitting but needed some creativity to get it to a 5/16 fuel line nipple. NAPA charged way too much but had to piece it together.
Also the reason it’s so hard to screw in on the tank is it’s filled with paint. Nice touch by the manufacturer.

Tank is from KaiserWillys so I assume it’s China, or other import, made but not many options out there for tanks. I think KW is cheaper stuff looking like great Jeep stuff. Still having a heck of a time getting lugs in on front rotors both from KW.
