lack of 75 available parts. any ideas on where to find (I'm already checking the yards). Mechanically, can I substitute a 78 filler neck, vent and hose on my 75 with minor mods to the body. I have a new and installed 75 steel tank? or are there any other ideas. Thanks

The large hose is available from MTS, IIRC. http://www.mtscompany.com/jeep.htm Vent hose too, or you can use a vent hose from a later model and cut it to length. The unobtainable parts are the flange that the cap screws onto, and the bulkhead fitting to the vent hose. You may be able to make the bulkhead fitting, and improvise for the flange. Try boating or marine supply for a universal flange?

You can usually get the gas hose in various sizes from a trucking place too.

    go to your year/model
    then go to fuel/air

they have the hose and ring.

have not bought from them, but they have a decent selection of parts.

    Jbdec,
I replaced the filler assembly on my 73 CJ. Found the large fill tube at 4wd.com, and vent hose from quadratec. I also found the stainless connection to put the two together, do not remember where but it is available, I will try to find my link. As for the filler neck I used a regular 76+ neck from quadratec, has 2 small tubes coming out of rear, however if you cut them off completly, where they both meet the filler, then the remainder fits perfectly in the earlier model fill hose.
I hope that all makes since. If not I can try to take a photo. Turned out to be very simple.

I did the exact same thing for one of my 1972 CJ5s. All I had was a 77 filler neck, and if you cut off the stubs it really is a perfect fit for the bigger tube. Definitely the best non-stock solution I could come up with...glad somebody else figured that out too.

I was able to find the filler hose and vent hose rather easily. The problem was connecting the two. I used an electrical conduit fitting for a year or so which worked alright but not perfect. (3/4 emt box connector on one end, 3/4 seal tight flex nipple on the other. they sell them at home depot) It was a perfect fit but didn't seal perfectly. The original didn't seal perfect either, sooo...

A permanant solution was something I read poking around these forums. I used a piece of exhaust pipe, probably around 2.5" wide and cut it maybe 4 inches long. drilled a 3/4" or so hole in it. I stuck 3/4" barbed fitting in that hole and welded it solid. I then put a small slice in the filler neck and using wd-40, i was able to slide this contraption in one side, slide it back a little, and put a hose clamp on each side. I never looked back. Now my gas dosn't constantly backup at the pump nor does gas pour out when I am on an angle in the trails. I hope I've explained this somewhat decent. If anyone does this, a tip is weld the barbed fitting at a 45deg. angle to alleviate the angle of the vent hose, which usually would cause this hose to kink. If you weld it on an angle like I did, you can pretty much have a straight piece of vent hose.
