I'm assembling a 1986 CJ-7 that I purchased minus running gear and motor. I have two engine options available, all parts on hand so I can go either route. Regardless of what I choose, both engines need to be rebuilt. Will be bolted up to AX-15 / Dana 300 combo, tires will probably be 31 or 32". Jeep will only see mild offroad, nothing crazy.

    Option 1
AMC 304, headers, performer intake, fuel injection.

    Option 2
    4.0 I6 stroker, fuel injection.

I like the old school v8, but I'm kind of leaning towards the stroker. I've had the parts for a while, been looking for an excuse to build one of these and drop into a project.

For sure the TB4 turbo diesel.

    Oh, wait. Not a choice.

The I6 would be a natural choice for an EFI Jeep engine. I'd guess performance would be comparable and either would have enough juice for the application.
