Dana 30 upper ball joint

Ok I am assembling the front end. I installed new upper and lower ball joints. Now with axle shaft in and the spindle bolted in place the #&$&# grease zerk fitting on the upper ball joint hits the axle cv/u joint. Ball joints are installed and torqued, even got the special tool for the split ring seat. Any Ideas because I am baffled!

 

remove male type zerk fitting
quick trip to flaps
get female needle type zerk fitting
install
drink beer
be happy

most upper balljoints for the d30 come with a plug that goes in after the you use the zerk to grease it. remove zerks, insert plug. however, the needle type is esaier to regrease.

 

I think all D30's are like that, I had one put on my TJ and the mechanic said it might get knocked off.

TJ, XJ, YJ, ZJ, WJ and MJ 30s have a different setup than CJ 30s. knuckles go in completely different. it's the lower one on them that interferes with the shaft.
