I'm making some progress on my trail rig stretch project so here come the pictures. I don't think I work fast enough to keep a build thread interesting, but we'll see how it goes. My plan, which has been in my head for about two years now, is to take everything I can off my '42 Willys MB and transfer it over to a CJ3B body stretched to CJ6 length (thus becoming a CJ6B :)). My boys are quickly outgrowing the limited space in the back of the MB.

My goal is to have it completed and ready to rock by October, 2012. It's strictly a trail Jeep, so with that in mind I'll be able to cut myself some slack on the cosmetics.
Some pictures and descriptions of progress to date here: http://coastaldimensions.com/Album/index.html

And a here's a few pics of the tub. All of the stretch is behind the door opening to make it look like a CJ3BL.

Wanna see more pics, especially of the frame stretch. Looks like a great idea for the growing family. I bet you will have plenty of driver room too!

Nice! That is one way of solving the leg room problem!!!!! Grafting in the MB wheelhouse bins along with the glove box?

Yeah, I'm using the MB glove box, but the wheelhouse bin covers are just ammo box lids. There's not enough width left to fit the MB covers. I looked for a place to use those on this Jeep, but I couldn't come up with anything.

I have a CJ6 frame I'll probably use for it, not stretching the MB frame. I'm doing patching and cleanup on the 6 frame now. I was thinking about building a new frame, but I think I can make the CJ6 frame work.

I was thinking about doing a nice stretch on my 67, I know the back isn't big enough for our growing family (and I have plenty of time to get it family ready) and was thinking about making some room for the kid (eventually kids) in my jeep.
I shall keep my eyes on this!

I drove the MB for the last time today. Down to the car wash to clean it up a bit before disassembly. Now I can start taking off parts here and there when I have just a small chunk of time or it's too late to run the saw and grinder.

This old Jeep has been a great rig for us for the past 6 years. It's never given me any trouble other than a few kinks from when I first put it together and an oil leak on occasion. Gonna miss it, but looking forward to having the stretched Jeep for the boys. It should work out good for us.

Here's to hoping I can get the new one built to be as fun and reliable as the '42 MB. The back of the Mb is 33" wide by what about 24" deep?
