When I bought my 66 cj5, the previous owner had decided he was going to put the tank back under the seat after a new fiberglass body. He ordered a new poly tank, cut the hole in the fiberglass body, then decided that he would move it to the back (which I like anyway)...leaving me with a big hole in the glass (which I am going to patch when it gets warmer), but he routed the line directly up, cutting another hole in the rear left trunk area, leaving the fill tube straight up back there.( another hole for me to patch)

My problem...I want to move it to the side of the jeep (it will need to be the driver side due to the tank...I believe the tank is a replacement for under the seat, I looked into the fill necks for the later cj's and yj's, but they have 2 tubes, one for a vent, and my tank doesn't seem to have a tubed vent, only a fill hose entry. (I want safety here with some sort of venting, i know it should have something, or possibly get a vented cap...) I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions here for me... or what type of neck or entry point would work, and where to get the parts...I was even thinking of buying a new tank set for a cj7 with both lines...so I could mount it to the other side. Any advice is much appreciated! I did see the Boyink page about the install, and would like to do something like this!

    Thanks!

PS...this is my first post, hope to make many more.

I used a Wrangler tank that has both fill and vent lines......I suppose you could use some sort of Y pipe to run the vent back into the fill....here's apic of the fill location

I think I'd ditch the under seat tank idea for the rear...sell it, get some $$ in return.
use a tank that was meant to be installed back there
    CJ7, Wrangler, whatever
    it would be easier IMO

I'd second that. You can hobb a LOT of things, but the weight of the fuel (like 7lbs per gallon?), (and the fact that it EXPLODES would make me think it should be mounted right.
My 61 CJ5 has a tank in the rear and a filler like the one shown (done by the P.O.), it only has 1 filler tube, (I know cuz the orginal leaked, I had to replace it.
In the olden' days the gas cap vented the tank, you could do that, (take a small drill and scratch the filler neck to keep it fropm sealing againt the cap, at the bottom to keep water out, or like suggested a "T" and a small hose vented to???
It looks like on my '61 the tank and the "skid plate"? mount, bolts to the back of the tub, an easy mount. (don't forget you sending unit when you deside where you want it).
    or..............
You got he hole, the "inside" tank, the filler, just mount it back under the seat, (put some cushioning under the tank like a rubber walk of mat).

Sometimes I have great ideas, other times the "ARE YOU OUTTA YOUR FREAKIN' MIND" arlarm goes off!

thanks guys, appreciate the input, I guess there is no real one piece "part solution" I want to do a lot to the jeep, and want to do it the right way, and learn a lot as I go along, since this is my first major project on a car. I will put pictures with whatever I do up as well!! Thanks!
