    hello everyone and good morning.
i'm really close to installing my 11" brakes on the rear of the jeep. my question is what year and application are these backing plates? i have two complete sets (bolt on) and one from a 74 cj5. i would like to know what the other two are as they are the same numbers on the plates.
the numbers are as follows....unknown plates #"s 3201051-L...3201052-R
    74 plates....3201047-L......3201048-R

i can get pictures later this morning of the complete set-ups. i just need to know what to buy for those plates in case it does matter. don't want to put wrong parts on the plates.

most likley those are Bendix part numbers as no Jeep part numbers are in that series.
You really can't go wrong ordering for mid 70s brake parts.
The holes in the plates ID the application: front or rear
The holes for adjusting the brakes will ID left or right sides.
The shoe hold down hardware is the same; self adjusters are the same other than LH or RH: most front 11" brakes use 1-1/8 ID cylinders, with 1" or 15/16 in the rear.
It shoudn't be that difficult if you stick to the known application.

that is what I'm trying to find out is what the application is for these plates. i don't want to purchase jeep brakes when it's a ford or other set-up. or are you saying i could order all jeep brakes and it will work on those plates?

Yes. As I understand you, you have a pair of backing plates from the front of a '74 CJ-5. You also have a pair that was installed on, but not original to, a '71 CJ-5 rear Dana 44 axle.

We cannot identify the plates by the plate numbers you gave us. But the 11"x2" Bendix brakes are generic to many applications. The only thing that changes between applications is the size of the center hole and the locations of the holes to bolt to the axles (AFAIK).

Basically you stick to a known application to order the parts, ie Ford or Jeep with 11"x2" Bendix brakes.

If you order parts for a '72 CJ-5, those will work, and will give you drums without fins. If you want a finned drum, order parts for a '75 CJ-5.

The rear plates could be from an old Utility Truck/Wagon, but they should look very different from the fronts. If not, then they are generic 11"x2" Bendix brakes. You should be able to compare fronts to rears and see that they are the same.

They are both 11"x2" Bendix brakes. The top ones are for a rear axle, since they have the parking brake cables and some of the parts. The lever is missing from the one on the left. <edit> Nope, lever is there - just rusty and I did not see it.

The top set of drums are not Jeep. Maybe Ford. Use them if they measure ok.

The top pic shows backing plates from a '72-'75 CJ centered Dana 44 rear. The second shows similar vintage for the front from a CJ, DJ, Wagoneer, etc.

True and those numbers are correct for Jeep applications.

The #3201051-L and #3201052-R are a direct fit for all Jeep rear flanged D-44's.
The #32011047-L and 3201048-R are a direct fit to all CJ's taken from Jeep front model 30's or from Postal DJ's.

thanks nick, i thought the member i bought them from said they were from a 60's to early 70's j truck or a gladiator. and the second is from the 74 cj5 front. i'm just glad i can use that stuff. i might sell the dana 30 plates because i have the disc set-up on the shelf ready to go.
