    I also noticed you are in Rochester, NY. I'm just east of you right off the 104... Well when I ever get back to the US... I'm hoping I'll be back sometime this summer and I can finally go get my 66 and drag it to NY from the barn it's stored in over in WI. Anyhow good luck with the build!

    2/27 - 3/10/10 UPDATE
    Little bit of a slow go the past couple weeks.. But I did manage some major milestones.
    I managed to get the motor between the frame rails with some effort. Took a bit of grunt to mount the heavy #$% flywheel. Dressed it up a bit with manifolds and some of the acc.

    It’s a tight fit in there. I may have some issues with the brake pedal hitting the bell housing. I haven’t adjusted the pedals yet, that’s perhaps on next weeks agenda.

    Body Work….
    I tried my hand at a bit of body work as well..
    I found that I am much better mechanically than I will ever be with sheet metal . There are still some repairs to be done, but on a time/cost basis I think I have thrown in the towel and I am dropping off the tub/tin to be painted Monday.. the guy doing it for me will “work on my efforts.”
    Here is a shot of the Hat Channels before/during removal.. and my A+ effort in getting the new ones on.

    And here is my real feeble attempt and doing some body work that people will see… I ended up most likely warping some of the metal, it will take some filler to make it look good.. Some of the +40 yr old metal was just not up to being welded. Even on the lowest setting i was buring through in places. but as I mentioned before that’s somebody else’s problem as of Monday..

    Looks good Arie. Once you get some pressure behind the brake pedal I don't see the clearance between it and the bell housing as an issue. Oh and I brought something home since well I had a spot to fill from the 5 being gone. R)

    Dont get dissapointed you are trying to do the near impossible...weld thinned out sheetmetal. IMHO I would leave the patch that you welded in and skim it with filler and be done. Nice work so far the hat channels came out great

    Your body work skills look pretty good to me! Doing a great job and that is quite the stable you got going on there. How many projects do you have on the go? :beer:

    The only other body work I have ever done was a patch panel on the floor of my 88YJ.. needless to say the metal was a bit thicker and it came out a bit nicer.. no need for filler.
    Im not opposed to using body filler, I mean its a +45 yr old tub.. it will be more perfect than it left the overland assembly line im sure.

    As for my projects..
    my 88YJ is my wheeler.. aside from the tinkering associated with Jeeps is DONE!!!
    my 49CJ3a is a running, driving, viable vehicle. It will undergo full restoration at some point in time, but why screw with a good thing.
    my 67CJ5 plow jeep... I actually had the top and doors off that yesterday, it was 65 deg here in Rochester NY.. runs and drives just fine, fiberglass body.. just needs some carb tuning.
    and my DD.. 08WKSRT8... +425hp of fun..

    yeah life is good... :)

    Thanks for the worlds of encouragement... body work is my least favorite part of any project..

    Well it’s been almost 8 weeks since my last update or post.. reason primarily being that bodywork is the slowest work when it’s not your full time occupation. It doesn’t hurt that when a painting favor is being done for you it’s hard to demand a time schedule.
    The secondary and probably better reason is quite frankly we get a few nice weather months up here in Rochester, NY and the thought of spending all my time in a warehouse working on a project isn’t high on the priority list. Its top down and wheeling weather it’s been hard to pry me out of the YJ..


    But here is an update on some of the progress that has been done to date.

    My Body tub and grill finally came back from paint. Still waiting on the rest of the tin, but I have enough here that I could get started on assembly if there is a rainy Saturday here and there, but I’m not expecting much till the weather gets crappy.

    *8/23/10 UPDATE*


    Nothing to Update... havent touched it since April...
    Few little things I have picked up here and there, but why stay inside when almost ever weekend has been nice here in the North East...

    I will prob get back to work on this come October/Novemeber..
    Until then, just parts collecting... Kinda

    I noticed the motor mounts from AA aren't welded only bolted, do they work ok this way.
    The reason I ask is i will be using them when i transfer my V6 to the new frame.
    Buy the way your jeep is looking good so far.
