linckeil: Welcome from Havasu. I prefer the OF 225/231's but that little Al V8 is a nice engine. Rover uses it still today in a more modern version on their Landcrusires.
That 215 was waiting to go into a Triumph Spitfire Not enough torque to use as a rock crawler, but fine for a dune runner.

My cousin has had a 215 in his flatfender for 20 years. T90 transmisiion. Fits like a glove and runs very well. The fit is no problem.

I have a 198 bellhousing still mated to a T-90/D18. Matter of fact, I still ahve the 198 too, but thats another issue. If you Cant find one, let me know and I'll dig it up...
I have 2 198's - one with a T90 and all attached as well. Let me know if you need anything as I am getting rid of the 198's.
Well, these guys all pretty much beat me too it all.
I researched this about a year ago since I had come up with a 54 cj3b that I thought had the dauntless in it. It had the 198. THe 225 and 198 bellhouse is different. Will not work between the 2. The 215 and 198 share the same bellhouse. Can't remember what the horsepower and torque rating were on the 2, but the 215 is lighter so it offsets that power a little. the 198 and 215 also share same piston bores, and parts like the water pump if I remember correctly. Odd fire also. The 198 was the 215 without the last 2 cylinders. The motor mounts Might be the same as the 225. Not completely sure on that though.
Land Rover bought the 215 from buick around the same time jeep bought the 225 I think. They used the same 215 design and bellhouse pattern for years in the rover. The newer design though is different.
I've got a pile of parts laying around from the old 198 that was in the 3b. My dad has the trans, but he's planning on swapping it out with another after he rebuilds it so the input shaft will probably be available if your interested.

You know that would be ineteresting if the Rover V8 still had the same Bellhosuing, would be ineteresting swap to put in a later rover V8 in a jeep. HHHMMMM
Message To All With 198/215 Parts:
Some of you have mentioned you have parts you may be interested in selling. Please send me an email with your prices. As mentioned before, I have a T90 (originally mated to a F134 - so it has the shorter input shaft and I've been told I need the longer shaft). So I need the longer shaft, a bellhousing, I'm assuming I also need some kind of an adapter to make the buick bellhousing mount to the T90? Is that true? And I need a clutch setup complete with flywheel, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. Some of you mentioned you already have these motors bolted up to a T90, so you know better than I exactly what I need. If someone can post here what I need I'd apprecaite it. You guys have been a HUGE help. I posted to 2 other Jeep forums before I was pointed to this forum. It would have taken me months to come up with all the info you gave me in 2 days. I can't thank you all enough.....
all my stuff from the 198 is over at my parents in my dad's jeep right now. Just the block hooked up to everything. I know its all there; bellhouse, clutch, flywheel, adapter, longer shaft...
They are all going to be junked out so if you want them They're yours. I'm sure we can make a good deal Not sure how long it'll take since the jeep is under a tarp right now and my dad hadn't planned on working on it till he got his polebarn up. But, I'm sure I could help him out.

That would be great. I'd perfer to get everything I need from the same person who had it all working in harmony. No hurry on it. The jeep is staying as is until after the winter. But I do have a spare T90 under the workbench thats been rebuilt, so it would make a good winter project to get it all together and drop it in come spring time. The only concern I have is the possibility of a smaller clutch assembly found on the 198. Do you know if thats true? Or are they the same between the two motors? I also heard the 215 came with 2 different flywheels. One was a bit heavier then the other. I gotta look furthur into the differences between the two. Either way I'll take whatever you got. Chuck P: The V8 was the optional engine in the TR8, not the Spitfire. Also used in the later "Vantage" or something like that, can't remember. Great engine in those cars. I'm an old Triumph/Jag owner.

Hi warloch, was reading some old posts and you mentioned that you have the jeep 198 bellhousing I would like to buy it if it is stll servicable.

I'd suggest you PM the members that might have parts. Click on their avatars and select "conversation."
This will be more effective and stay within the forum rules (no buying/selling allowed outside the marketplace areas).
If you can find one, the one piece bell housing used in 71 Dauntless Jeeps can be drilled and tapped to accept a T-90. I had a M38 with this, and one of my 67 CJ5s was also converted from F-134 to a 225 using that bell housing. I like this better than using an adaptor, because you would also have the option of using the T-14 or T-86 transmission, but those bell housings are rare. You would still need to use the long input shaft.
