My jeep (84 CJ7) has the stock 3" fender flares on it and they just don't provide enough coverage from slinging mud. I searched the net for wider flares but the prices jump from around $80 for the stock 3" wide Omix Ada flares to over $300 for Zenon 5" wide flares.
I had an idea of fabricating a 2" wide spacer to go between my stock flares and the fenders.
Any suggestions on material to fabricate them from? I'd think some kind of fairly rigid material that was about 1/2" wide X 2" deep would work. Maybe some aluminum tubing in that size that I could conform to the shape of the fender cut out.
Plan would be to remove the flares...attach the spacer, then attach the flares to the spacer. Maybe just using bolts long enough to go all the way through the flares, and the spacer and the fender. Just shifting the flares outward 2".

I"d have to see it first. Not sure how good that would look unless it was done well.
