Now I need to order some rear quarter panels so I can start building the rear of the tub. Anyone ever use these?

Maybe you could sell the hard top and doors? You could put that money into the new panels? Just a thought!:?

Well I went and got those side panels this morning, they include the whole A pillar too. There were only $187 for the pair including tax, good deal I think.

That is a great deal. That will save you lots of work and really help make a quality finished product. It should be fun for you.

I like them because now there will be almost zero bondo in the jeep, now I just need to find all those spot welds. I won't be able to start working on it for a couple weeks because I need to help finish building the garage. I can't wait to get the ball rolling with the tub construction though.

Do you guys think I should take the time to cut out the bow pockets or leave the way it is? What about cutting the jeep letters out of my old side panels and welding them in these ones?

So I've been thinking about swapping in a TBI 4.3 lately. Some reasons are that my current 225 needs rebuild bad, I want fuel injection, and I want to swap in a granny gear 4 speed with the 4.3. I plan on taking this jeep up some mountain passes out West and I don't think a carb would work very well with all the changing elevation. So what exactly is needed to swap in a 4.3 with a granny gear 4 speed?

I am doing that right now.

So far all I have been doing is gathering parts, and educating myself.

Best answer I can give at this time is ------ money.

    Lots of money.

I will be doing a build thread when I actually start twisting wrenches.

So far, I have bought 4 engines, and sold 3 of them again, I finally settled on a 95 4.3 from a S-10 Blazer, which I drove home. Rear end hit/total. $100.00

I highly recommend buying a complete vehicle instead of just an engine----you get all the necessary parts that way. And, until you dont have it, you dont know what is necessary..........

SM 465 tranny was $125, but adapter was $439. Parts and labor to install adapter (requires mainshaft change) is going to be $405. But, then, I am going with a full rebuild of the box.

Motor mounts are somewhere in the $150 range if you buy them, or you can make your own----I am going to make my own with these and a bit of "rollyourownology".

Fuel system needs a high pressure pump, $80 up, and exhaust system is anywhere from $0 if you can make the one from the donor car work to skys the limitville.

Might need new radiator also, brake and steering upgrades ????

Jeep----> just empty every pocket/just extremely expensive parts

I was planning on going to the junkyard to get all the parts I need off a S10 blazer or whatever car I find with the lowest miles and a 4.3

My rad is junk so what is a good donor vehicle for a rad?

I was thinking the Novak adapter with a SM465 would be the best option.

Are there any sources on the net with a guide or some info on how to strip the wiring harness to what's needed for it to work in a jeep?

I'm going to convert it to 4 wheel discs and power saginaw steering, I guess a hydro clutch too.

Just be sure you get EVERYTHING needed to make the thing fit into the jeep, and run. Wiring, brain box, relay box? test port? fuel pump? exhaust parts? motor mounts? ETC

Are you in a smog state?? Think of any parts needed to make the smog thing happen. Air cleaner, charcoal can, cats, and so on.

    Dont know, search the forums.

I went with Advanced Adapter, found a better price.

Yes, but not a lot. This is knowledge not shared by many.

Try here. http://persh.org/pickup/TBI Helps.htm or here http://www.lt1swap.com/wiringharness.htm these are a couple I have found.

I think that is wise. Check Novak for the lower half of the hydro clutch setup.

He does some pretty nice work, gave me some ideas. Right now I'm helping paint the inside of the garage and drywall. Whenever the snow melts we can get the floor poured and I can start work on the jeep, and make a nice metal brake. I'm going to go see if I can free up my wiper motor and get it working now.

Not much progress lately since we're still working on the garage, but I did get my wire harness in the mail today.

Not much progress, I still don't have a place to work on my jeep yet which sucks.

I have been thinking about stretching the jeep into a CJ-6 a little. That's 20 extra inches right? Since my frame already needs boxed and the rear portion rebuilt I might as well add the extra length to it. And since I'm building a new tub I can cut the new side panels in half and add the length to them pretty easily.

I don't think it would be too hard to add the extra 20 inches into my hard top either. All I have to do is make the extension panels for the sides and cut the roof and add some to it. I think that would be cheaper than trying to find a nice CJ6 top around here.

    What do you guys think?

it certainly adds work to an already labor intensive project.

keep it simple is my motto.
