1964 CJ5 F134.....what mustang radiator?!?!?

    I have searched but only find the mustang radiator conversion for the v6 jeeps. What mustang radiator do I need for my 1964 CJ5 with the f134?

    I would check out the AFCO radiators on Speedway Motors site. They list dimensions and inlet/outlet locations for all the radiators. You can then pick the one that most closely resembles the original. But I think it's the 65-66 radiator if memory serves.

    These cars also came with a 200 cid inline six. I'd take a look at both the V8 and 6 radiators and see which has better outlet locations for your F134.

    A Fiero radiator is also a popular choice for the V6 swap, so you could look at those too.

    I'd think the F134 is not particularly difficult to keep cool. The amount of heat produced is proportional to the fuel burned, and the thick F134 block should send more than the usual fraction of combustion heat out with the exhaust. Most F134 owners just have their stock radiator recored, I believe.

    mine still has holes stays about 85% full and i dont ever overheat havent had time to recore the heat transfer on these is great but then again they were made to keep the troops running. id be interested tho in this mustang conversion which is more cost effective though? recore or convert?

    Early Mustang. Same years of Comet and Falcon. Maybe early Maverick.

    After looking at both the 1966 inline 6 application and the 289 it looks like the inline 6 radiator has the "most correct" inlet/outlet locations. Thanks for the help!

    Mainejeep, You are right, the originals are built substantially. I suspect newer radiators may not last as long, they are built to the bare minimum.

    I've had very good luck with both repairs and re-cores on F-head units as much as 70 years old.

    I work for O'Reilly Auto Parts so I can get the mustang radiator at a bargain. I plan on keeping the original radiator and checking on the price of a recore. There is a local shop that does great work I plan on checking with. I will keep everyone posted on my findings although it may be a while.
