I have a single key to my 67 and it’s original. Is it still possible to have these keys made? I tried the big box places but no luck.

Someone smarter than me will be sure to reply. Maybe reach out to Lockman on this site. You might be able to find an original blank from that year on ebay and take to a local Ma and Pa Locksmith shop.

Copies can be made at any lock shop.
Big box stores are not lock shops !
But it won't be on the original head key, but a generic.
For a spare, it doesn't really matter what the blank is in my opinion.

The 58' that I'm very slowly parting out came with a single Briggs & Stratton key. I bet if you're patient, eBay will yield results for you.

You can still get NOS Jeep logo keys on eBay! Since these vintage tumblers only have 4 “wafers” inside, matching the key is very easy to your exsisting switch.
And even original glove box keys

    What Jim said.

I had keys for my CJ made at an actual locksmith. Cheap and better quality than anything else available. But they will be generic.

Keep some search alerts set and check ebay often. I have several nos ignitions with keys saved for future projects thanks to ebay.

Where did you find those? I've looked for the "Jeep" keys and no luck, tho I have a few.

Sad to say when dad closed up shop, we threw out about 25-30 of these keys that had been laying around in a drawer for years.
There were some new sets and the usual old worn-out keys as well.

IMG_9448.jpeg Here’s the backside. Brigg’s & Stratton. The number was so close to my ignition that I was able to juggle the “wafers” to the key profile! I had 4 extra wafers to use if needed.
The “wafers” are skinny rectangular pieces of soft metal that have slots in them. If needed, you could file the slots higher to match the key.

The wafers inside the lock are brass and will wear over time. (so does the key)
The front wafer sees the most wear as all cuts on the key blade travel over the first wafer.
The rear wafer is only affected by the last cut on the key so typically not much wear on it.
IF you could find new wafers for the ignition switch [locksmith] you could then file them down flush
to the cylinder [plug] to match any key you have.
Keep in mind there are very small springs under the wafers so be careful and don't lose them.
Sometimes the wafers need a little help to pop out of the plug.

Another option for a problematic key would be to have a new key cut by code.
A locksmith uses your number off your old key to create/cut a new key by code.
If no number, them measurements are made to the old key.
Also whenever you have keys duplicated, if your old key is severely worn, you are buying a brand new worn out key.
There are tricks to shim under the old key before duplication.
Big box store can't/won't do this; they are duplicating what you present.
A good locksmith won't usually duplicate a severely worn key for chance of comeback.
    So buyer beware before proceeding.

I think he was scolded for attempting to sell JEEP licensed product without being an authorized jeep dealer.

I found a local locksmith that made keys for me. I’m happy I still have one original that fits the ignition and glove box! Thanks for the input.
