    Hey All -

The highlight of my visit to the local overlanding show was meeting Patty Upton, who along with her husband Loren hold the Guinness World Record for the first all-land crossing of the Darién Gap and a drive around the world, taking over five years and driving more than 56,000 miles.

All in a '66 CJ5 with the :dauntless V6. :bananatool:

See an interview/Jeep tour with Patty. (not mine).

Patty had the "Sand Ship Discovery" on display at the show and I was able to fill in some data she was missing (axles/gearing, etc).

She could use our help with a few things (and I'm hoping to see her chime in here, I invited her to the board and she wrote down our URL).

    - The Jeep is missing its V6 badges. Anyone have a set we could donate? Or is anyone 3D printing replicas?

    - The Jeep has a museum stay coming up (in Manhattan, KS no less @sparky). After that, Patty is seeking a to rehome the Jeep with someone who would understand what it is, and what it did, and not just cut it up to make a crawler out of it. Figured this was as good a place to start as anywhere. I almost feel like we should crowd source the purchase and make it the site's mascot....

Patty is a sweetheart, she was the guest speaker at the fall reunion and she stayed after the banquet to help clean the tables.

Edit: It's a cool rig I wouldn't say no to taking it to shows and preserving it. (I already have a work rig)

I'm in to help with emblems. If I had a set to give her I would.

I remember and still have the articles that detailed the trip from, I think, 4Wheeler Magazine. I read it with great enthusiasm and couldn't wait for next months issue to read the next chapter of the story. Hoping Patty and the jeep make it to the east coast somewhere close enough to see.

    Thanks for representing us Mike.

It is a riveting story of adventure. The Darién Gap is one of the most dangerous places on the planet, and it was only one leg of their journey. It took some guts to do what they did. It is a cool Jeep, and I hope it lands where it belongs, in a museum where people in coming years can see it and learn about that epic adventure.

And I worry about driving the Jeep I'm wheeling to Uwharrie and back!
    That was a serious commitment.
Very cool story. This Jeep needs to be saved.

5 years and 56,000 miles. Now that's an off road adventure.

I'm happy to buy the V6 badges and accept reimbursements...but I can't help thinking a set of shiny new badges is going to look out of place on that Jeep. Anyone have a set of properly-aged badges that I can replace with some new ones?

Wow the story here is so inspiring! Great to see a JEEP Jeep represented so well!. I Also loved the 4" extended top height. I swapped my 64' windshield with a 69' in order to see under the top of the windshield.
I wonder if the SS Nile Queen box is now a permanent storage container for extra axle shafts now
