Just out of curiosity, I’m guessing this needs the long (wagon T90J) input shaft? What is the depth?

    Guess I am confused hee.
I thought that the Fireball 198 and 215 used the same factory bell and they both bolted direct to a T90-A.

I think this may be a TranAdapt per Mark at D&D but he isn't sure and there are no stampings. Offenhauser said it was very similar to theirs but not one of theirs.

I think the 198 may be different, not 100% but seem to recall Sal/Vintage Jeeper mentioning that to me in the past.

Yes, Buick has at least two factory bellhousings for the 198/215. One has only the T90 bolt pattern, and the other has both the T90 and the wide Muncie/T10 pattern. Both of these factory bellhousings are shallow, with a depth that allows use of the short F-134 T90A/C trans input shaft. The shallow bellhousing either pushes the engine up against the firewall, or moves the trans/TC further up under the dash.
The deeper aftermarket bellhousings give more room to better position the engine. 2-1/2” (or so) extra depth make a lot of difference.

Thanks for clearing that up Donny.
    So now I know.
Yes standard Jeep adapters are 2-5/8” for the Dauntless so that makes real good sense to me concerning engine and transfer case fore/aft placement.
So that’s essentially where this aftermarket bellhousing comes into merit. It allows the engine to clear the firewall without moving the transfer case.
    Awesome !

Hello All PK here, first post here and confused already. The above conversation refers to the Buick 198 which is a V6 AND the Buick 215 which is a V8, then the Dauntless comes into the conversation which is a V6 (again). Hence my confusion, my question is IF this adapter is still available will it in fact allow me to bolt a Buick 215cid V8 to the T90 tranny in my 1964 CJ5? If so I definitely need it, thnx and sorry for my confusion

The Buick 198 (V6) and the Buick 215 (V8) share the same bellhousing pattern with the 2 “ears” around the 10 and 2 clock positions. The Buick 225 and 231 and many non-Chevy GM cars share the “ BOP” the newer (post-‘63) pattern.
My guess is the bellhousing for sale has the T90 bolt pattern for the T90 case, but likely requires the longer T90J input shaft. Your ‘64 CJ should have a short-shaft T90C or possibly the earlier T90A. If you have a T90A, you could swap in the longer input shaft from the Willy trucks. This transmission was used in 6 cylinder Willys trucks and Wagons in the ‘50s and early ‘60s. The T90C has an incompatible tooth count on the input shaft verses the T90J shaft.
Willys became Kaiser around the ‘63/‘64 time period, and made the change in versions “A’ to “C” of the T90 around this time. Generally, axle ratios changed at the same time as the transmission gear change. A CJ with 5.38 axle gears usually had the T90A, and 4.27 axle gears usually had the T90C. After close to 60 years, there’s no telling what T90 version you have, but your axle ratio may help determine what T90 version you have.

    Does the Rover 215 V8 (3.5L, 3.9/4.0L, 4.2l, 4.6L displacements) share the BOP pattern?

Yes, all the same. Flywheels are the expensive parts.

EDIT: I jumped the gun! NO, the British engines don’t have the BOP pattern of the 225. The British variants all share the 198/215 Buick pattern. The BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiac) pattern is ‘64-newer for GM vehicles (except Chevy with its own pattern).
