Cj5 Won't Start; Diagnosing Fuel Problem

I think it does, but some of it was exterior. Here is after cleaning the outside of the bowl:

Okay good. BUT - does your coil throw an HT spark when you do that??? Place the output wire 1/4" from a ground to test this.

No spark, no starting. I think you are closing in on the problem.

 

Most carburetor problems are electrical.

 

Yep. Especially when working on 2 cycle boat motors.

Thank you— test showed 3.6 on the primary and 9.66k on the secondary. Seems like that's the correct resistance?

I checked and cleaned the connections going to the coil and they looked okay.

 

Is the HT wire good? Solid wire is my preference but the carbon core supressor type can burn out.

 

Change the condenser, these things have a finite life and usually don’t last as long as the points and plugs.
If you can find a new one buy two, even new ones are prone to be no good!

 

Maybe so. But even without a good condenser, wouldn't the coil be firing? Bad condenser will cause points to arc, and burn prematurely, but the OP just cleaned them.

"Finite life?" I dunno, I've had many that lasted for decades.
