Question for everyone about the hood reflectors on the 69 cj5's. I took mine off to see about doing a 3d print and not sure I have what everyone else has on theirs. everything I'm seeing online is the reflector is amber on the hood and the black housing is larger in front and tapers down as it goes to the rear.

Mine has red reflectors and the black housing is larger on top and tapers down to the bottom. Can anyone confirm what I have is supposed to be there or not? Only thing I can think of is this was a trencher. Not sure what year it was built other than it is titled as a 69. Maybe something that was added by the upfitter?
I'll get a picture of mine in a little bit here.

Is that a snorkel cut-out in the second picture? If so that is likely an earlier than 1969 hood, but it could be on a 1969. Red front reflector is wrong for the road--amber for the front is normal. 1969 Hood Reflectors

Does the Jeep's serial number match up with 1969 production ('68-'69). Because I'm thinking what might be an early hood with a later safety reflector isn't adding up.

They do appear similar to those that are on my 69/70 J/C C-101

The reflector itself looks identical, just red.
Only one set of holes in the hood.
Both are like that so its not like one broke and they threw another on.
Just wondering if it was different because it was a trencher jeep and not a normal cj.

I know you can buy both red and yellow reflectors, just not the black mounts. Ozfin's are the correct ones for standard CJ. That would be the one to have imaged for 3D printing. IIR someone here volunteered to set-up a 3D image if someone sent him originals to copy. I'd be in line for purchase :D

The CJ hood is not as wide as the Commando hood so 2 different types of reflector housings would be used. The CJ housing is much thicker at the front, as shown on the production line photo. Definitely not red in front either.

If someone could trace out and get a few measurements for me i can see what i can do. Im assuming the bases may be very similar to what i have since the reflectors look similar from pictures. It looks like it may just be the heights at the front and rear of the bases that will be different

As mentioed in post#3, a '69 doesn't have a snorkel cutout, so that hood is not original to that Jeep. The snorkel cutout disappeared sometime in early '66. That red reflector isn't correct for a '69 hood.

If someone could measure from the front of the hood to the mounting holes also for me.

Being a trencher just curious myself if it was something done by an owner, or if it sat at an upfitter for 3 years untill it sold. Ill start looking for some serial #"s later.

Then again i got this from my uncle who at one time had enough parts to build at least 10 jeeps. This was his last one. But the paint all matches the body, and moss, so its been on there longer than he has had it.

Check the serial numbers to see what they tell you. As a trencher Jeep, is/was it a chain trencher or a backhoe type trencher? Does it have a Dana 60 rear axle? Dual rear tires?
