I got a Holley heat shield for my new Holley carb and intake and I'm not sure about the order of assembly. I've found conflicting information during searches and of course Holley didn't include directions or even spell it out on their website mehh. I have a thin carb gasket, a metal shield and a thick insulator block. Should it go carb gasket to the manifold, aluminum shield, insulator and then carb? Or thick insulator next to manifold?

    Thanks,

This takes me back many years when I did many Holley installs and I remember manifold-thin gasket-shield-insulator-carb. In some cases I had to trim the shield due obstruction.

Ihad to trim mine slightly too. You know, I ordered some longer studs to account for the thickness of the insulator and they came with metric nuts. What has the world come to?

Thinking logically for a moment it makes sense to go manifold, thin gasket, heat shield, insulator, carb. The insulator will insulate the carb from the heat transferred by the heat shield and give more clearance for linkages, etc.

I think you are right as the shield would act like a fin on an air-cooled application. It increases the surface area at the hottest part of the system.
