1970 dauntless v6 clutch problems. once the beast warms up and is driven for an hour or so the clutch doesn't completely desingage and it grinds when putting it in gear. its as if the plates swell up, adjustments don't help. any ideas

    Need more background...
    Any recent clutch/transmission work done?
Did it just start doing this?
How long has the jeep been sitting?
etc. etc. etc. The more info the easier to diagnose.

Yea, I have had the jeep for a year and put around 5oo miles on it as I make improvements. It hasn't been sitting . Its as if the plates swell or the cable, which is new, streaches a bit after running for an houir or so. Does it every time , when it cools down no problem

I will check the cable clamp . the pedal when all the way out is tight, no play at all, on all my other vehicles there is usually 1/2" to an 1" in petal play. I am afraid that it is so tight that the clutch is not fully ingagued when running

you need some free play in the clutch to start.

If the clutch is slipping, the driven disk, the pressure plate and the flywheel will all heat up.
You need about 1" of free pedal.
That's about 1/8" between the release bearing and pressure plate levers.
