Should any of the main bearings for a '71 225 have only a partial oil groove?

My main bearing set(Clevite MS-960P) has one bearing with only a partial oil groove in the upper bearing. The other bearings all have a groove the full length of the upper bearing half.

See pics to show the one that has only the partial groove and another one for comparison that has the full length oil groove.

    Is this right?

And if so, which journal does the partially grooved bearing go in?

I searched for other possible threads and did find one that asked the same question but was never fully answered.

The partial oil relief bearing goes in the rearmost journal.

Not sure. IIRC the FSM doesn't cover it, but every 225 I've taken down has had them, at the rear main.

If that's the case, and I'm not disputing what you say Patrick, why wouldn't it show in the FSM? I don't have an FSM yet but the other manuals I've looked at don't mention the odd bearing at all.

I did find a picture on Summit's website that does show the set and it does show the partially grooved bearing. So I guess the bearing is OK. I'm just confused as to why there's no mention of it in the manuals.

    Thanks again

The SM-1046 does mention the grooves go up and it does mention that the rear main is different. It just does not expound on the difference.

OK, then. If that's the way they go, then that's the way they go. I wish it was more specific in the books, but it is what it is. I'll start getting this thing back together in the next few days.

    Thanks for the info.

My Buick 231 shop manual says the rear groove does not go all the way around the top half shell.

    Mine says the same.
My Jeep fsm just says it's different but doesnt say what position it should be in. In this case I'd defer to Patrick as he has recent extensive experience with the 225. Lots of changes happened between the 225 and even fire 231
