Get the crud off!!!!!

    I am in the process of Scraping/Cleaning 50 years worth of grime, grease, and goo from the engine, transfer case, and any other place that seems to need attention. What is the best way to get this crud broken down? I am hopeful to get her running again and then start a more thorough restoration in the Spring. I have posted some photos on my facebook page, I will continue to share as I go along.

    Engine degreaser, putty knife, flat screw driver (for getting into the crevices) and a pressure washer. Your driveway will never look the same again.

    Easy off oven cleaner works very good, as long as you pressure wash it off.

    Castrol super clean, pressure washer, putty knife and screw driver, and hot water. The castrol is biodegradable and works well if you let it soak In.

    Caution, never soak you old skool K & N filter with the soldered screen in this stuff.. cleans great.. eats the solder or whatever that stuff is that holds the screen together.. Needless to say, I was kinda tweaked when I had to buy 4 new filters...

    Whatever you go with, HOT water rinse, as mentioned above, preferably through the power washer, is the ticket. I simply hauled mine to the car wash, sprayed it with engine degreaser, let it sit for about 10 minutes, used the hot water wash, then rinsed it off. I scraped most of the heavy stuff at home before going o the car wash.

    purple power is ok if you can soak the part overnight in a bucket. my local walmart sells spary on foam engine degreaser in a blue can that works good to. i miss the old chemical parts cleaning solvents but they got baned in my area. :(

    I do not have a Hot Water pressure washer, maybe I will hook a hose to my hot water heater. Thanks for all the tips.

    If you do - be sure to make sure the hose will not melt with the temp at the heater. I have seen garden hoses melt when hooked straight to the heater.
