OK, Alternator not charging. Replaced alternater and still not charging. Looking at charging system I have two electrical boxes. One larger rectanglar box and a smaller box also mounted to the wheel well. Not sure which is voltage reg. I have a 1976 CJ 304 with a replacement wire harness. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have the original ignition system, the larger box is the ignition module and the smaller box is the voltage regulator. Here's a picture of the module:

Check the manual - lots of good info there. http://oljeep.com/gw/76_tsm/Section3.pdf

A '76 has a Motocraft alternator, which is inferior to the Delco used with sixes that year. Jeep switched to only the Delco alternator a few years later. I would not replace a Motorcraft with a Motorcraft - especially since you have a replacement harness, and the Delco alternator has an internal regulator - so you replace both if you upgrade.

Thanks, I recognize the module. I have the alternater that requires external voltage regulator. Do you have a schematic of the voltage reg wiring? I notice one of the wire connectors have a missing wire. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at page 3-11 and 3-12 of the pdf file that Tim shows and you will see the "I" (ignition) terminal on the regulator is not used.
