First off im just going to say that who-ever designed these things must have not been thinking about weight. I just picked up my hard top for the 6 today from storage and i completly forgot how much those panels weighed. At least i have a winter project now. The question I have is what type of seam sealer did they use along the rain gutter on the top peice. I picked up some 3m body sealer the other day, would that work?
If this is in the wrong spot I'm sorry about that. Any info would be greatly apreciated.

Lift one of the doors. Ooof!

They used strip caulk between the parts, and adhesive-backed foam between the top and the body. You can get the strip caulk at the home center - look for "Moretite." Don't use anything that will harden between the panels. If you need a sealant in the rain gutter, the 3M seam sealent should be good.

Thanks for the info timgr. Yeah, the top peice along has to weight at least a solid 150lbs, maybe more. I only asked about the rain channel thing because if my eyes are right it looks as if the top was made with multiple peices, not one solid panel. And the doors, yeah, those suckers are heavy to say the least.

I used 1/8"X 3/4" foam tape on mine.
No drips of caulking or smears.
I put it on the roof first and let it down onto the sides.
Took a awl and poked the bolt holes out.

I was thinking about useing the foam tape on the top were it joins to the body, so if I want to remove it during the summer I wont have to remove any sealent. Thats a good idea about useing an awe for the holes. And goint back to the top piece. It looks as if the rain chainels were a second piece held on with spot welds, and seeing that these Meyer tops aren't that common, I really dont want this thing to rust out on me. Being i live in washington. so what i plain to do is run a bead of the 3M Sealent along the edge.
I post some photosas i go. I plain to rebuild this thing so I'll be asking a ton of questions here in the next couple of weeks.

used the seam sealer on the rain channels. instead of the foam tape, I used rubber weather strip from the hardware store (got the widest/thickest ones they had)

If you remove the top, I suggest that you remove it as 3 pieces (the doors and the rest) and lift it off as an assembly. If you do that, you won't need to mess with the sealant between the parts. Breaking it down to individual panels is a waste of time and effort - just to reduce the storage space needed. How were you planning to lift it and move it around when it's off the Jeep? You can lift it from the ridge of your garage, or make an A-frame. I'd make a trolley from 2x4s and casters to move it around after it's off.

I already have the top removed and broken down into it individuall peices. I just removed the top with the help of a buddy and the old fashioned lift and shuffle technique. I plain to restore this thing just to give me somthing to do, and to be able to drive the JEEP during the winter. I liked the way the Six looks with a hard top.

So, its been an interesting couple of days. I finally got a weekend off from work, so i could actually work on this top. Sanded to top panel down and shot a layer of primer on it, after cleaning it. Then i went around the rain channel and layed a layer of sealent down and let that dry over night. Also i noticed that on the backe side pannels, it looks as if the PO drilled holes, then put the top on and then re-drilled the hole to make it fit. So now i have to put pressure on the side while tightning down the bolts so the pannels can line up. Some days I wounder what peope were thinking, and if the ever heard of messure twice cut once, or drill in this case. Photos are sone to come.
