If I were to come clean, we've learned to stop the motor with the brake. This engine has always tended to run on.

Oh, that shake and gurgle usually means Pete's going backwards. Not a good thing, main reason we learned to shutdown with clutchout brake on.

That was why they put the solenoid on the carb that would shut the throttle butterfly when the ignition was cut off.

Really running well guys, I'm going to leave it where it is, and if it diesels, I can keep doing what everyone suggests and what I have been doing anyway, clutch and brake. Had a really pretty evening tonight, put the windshield down and took one of my kids into town for a nice ride. Not looking forward to this Hurricane coming thru tomorrow/Sunday. Have a family place down on the Outer Banks of NC and the house is boarded up and ready, but who knows what will be left Sunday. Will head down there Monday and see if they will let me out onto the banks.
Back to the jeep, have been getting a lot or rattling noise from the back and finally pulled the old original side mount spare tire carrier off as it was moving around alot. Pretty rough body damage underneath - there's another project! Actually kind of like the look without it back there.

Pete ran on brand new. The only thing I've removed is the dashpot. I like the rpms to drop immediately when you back off the throttle.

Could be wrong, but I thought dieseling was caused by retarded timing. But then with the key off, I guess there is no timing.

Dieseling is usually caused by the idle being set to high or a weak throttle return spring, try a stronger return spring. Is the motor really dieseling when shut off, the v6 has a 50 plus pound flywheel, it takes a little longer for the engine to stop spinning after being shut down. Good Luck.

Definitely idling too high! Been meaning to get back under the hood and adjust the carb. Will look at the spring, good suggestion Mjragan, thanks!
