Bouncing causes throttle application

    I used an iron CJ5 pedal for a number of years in the 3B and it was always a pain in the rear:

    I cured it with this:

    Made a huge difference in the bounce throttle and way more comfortable to drive.

    Nice! I think I'll need to do something like that too. Not even because of the throttle problem, just because using the toe to work the throttle starts to hurt after an hour or two.

    I had that exact same pedal. I could not get it anywhere I liked it. Just not enough room on the floor board. I ended up cutting it up and building a pedal with rollers under it. Didn't really like that, either. Back to the stock unit.

    I think it's gonna end up 'modified' to work like I want it to as well - just needed a good base to start from ;)

    Actually, it doesn't take very long just to make one from scratch, it least if you have a mill or heavy drill press. The pedal on mine is 1/8 diamond plate and I welded a short piece of piano hinge on it for the floor pivot. The arm is 1/2" 6061, milled to 1/4 and slotted on the upper end to allow adjustment of the throw, and the firewall block was made from a piece of 1" stock and also brass bushed with a piece of 3/8" stainless for the shaft. There is a brass bushed ureathane roller on the lower half of the arm that contacts the pedal. The rod to the air body is just 1/4" 6061 with bearing rod ends.

    i have the original stamped steel pedal and i thought the surging was just from me getting bounced around while driving.

    I finally got a chance to get my rig up to the trails, the new throttle return spring has practically eliminated the throttle surging when bumping. For anyone else who runs into this problem, I'd recommend swapping the spring to see if it helps.

    When I put the V-6 in the '59 '5 I used a hanging pedal from a GM car and bent it to fit where I liked. No bouncing. The pedal is considerably lighter than the stock units and can be modified to where you like it easily.
