Looking for some advice on maximum tire size on my 66 CJ-5. V6 Dauntless, T86 and Dana 18 single stick transfer case. I put a 1" Rancho 4061k lift kit on it when i bought it - old springs were shot! Tires were shot when i got it as well and i was looking for the original "factory" look so i dug up maybe the last set of Hercules HDT tires, 7.00-15, in existence. Now i'd like to move up to something bigger and better on the sand when necessary. I had to add 2" spacers to get the HDT's to not rub the inside front fender on a sharp turn, so i have those to work with.
    Thoughts?

This topic has been covered a lot in the past. Have you searched old posts? You can run a 31-32-33 without any modification.

Tire rub on turns usually mans that your steering stops are not properly adjusted. Or else you have a wide tire on a narrow wheel, which bulges to the inside. But this too can be corrected by adjusting the stops.

I don't think 33's or 34's would work well with less than 2-2 1/2" lift..Unless it stays on the street.

I'll take it down to the local tire shop and see if they will work with me on figuring out what will fit. Thanks everyone!

I have the same rancho springs, no body lift, and 1.5-inch spacers on the rear. The tires rub slightly under sever articulation with 31x10.5 on 4" backspaced rims. I will be going with a 2.5-inch lift and 33x10.5 in the future.
