    Hi,

My dad and I are restoring a :AMC:73 cj5. Last saturday we found the steeringbox but we didn't find the brackets to mount the steering box to the chassis. The jeep was bought in pieces and thats why i dont know how the steeringbox brackets are bolted to the chassis.

so my question is: Does someone has pictures how the steering box is bolted to the chassis (the jeep is completely stock):?

    thanks,

    Sander

No picture on hand, but it bolts to the inside of the frame channel, under the front cross member. If you had the bracket, it would be obvious.

BTW these 72-75 brackets are not plentiful. They sometimes break, and there is no aftermarket source.

    Well done pathkiller.

The bracket pictured in the link may or may not be for power steering. The part facing you goes in to the frame. The bolt surface for the steering gear is on the ground. For PS, there should be a place for four bolts. The manual steering bracket uses three bolts. Either bracket will work with either gear, but the four-bolt configuration is somewhat stronger, and therefore paired with PS. Just FYI.

I belie e the bolt up is different and I know it angles the steering gear differently necessitating a different pitman arm

Sander, If you don't have the braket let me know. I may still hve the one I took off my 72. Its the 3 bolt bracket for the manual steering but I ran PS on it for 4 years doing some serious rock crawling without a problem.

On the later CJs the front frame horns were boxed. The stamped 2 piece brackets bolted to the top and bottom of the frame rail.

Thanks for the reply but I live in the Netherlands :p. My dad and I are going to a guy who parted his 73 cj5 out. He said he has some brackets and other stuff laying around, so hopefully the problem is solved :D
