I just replaced my master cylinder. It has the brake light switch mounted on the front. I put the wires back into the female terminals. Now the brake lights are on all of the time...even when the key is out. Do I have the wires switched? How do you tell which wire goes in which terminal???

Shouldn't matter which is on which terminal, it's a simple on or off type switch, at least every pressure operated switch I've seen is like that. Do you have individual terminals on the wires going to it? Sounds more like the terminals are touching somewhere which would be completing the circuit.

It's just a switch, and isn't polar. Connects the two terminals when there is pressure, and not connected otherwise.

You must somehow have residual pressure in the MC, or else the switch is broken. Ideally you'd put the switch on the new MC before you bench bleed it.

Thanks guys....turns out that the new switch poles are a little closer together than the old one. The clips that hold the male to female terminal together were making contact and closing the circuit. I removed the clips and it all works now. Thanks again
