Even when my dauntless is warmed up, it will stumble a bit when i slam the gas at idle (prob around 600 or 700 rpm). It has a manual choke and if I pull the choke out 1/4 of the way, it runs great. The idle also increases to around 1000. I rebuilt the carb a few years ago as well as a full tune up but it sat the whole time, only starting it occasionally. The carb kit was prob from autozone tho not sure if that matters. Any idea what this might point to before I start replacing everything? Guess I was going to start by giving the carb another rebuild and set the mixture screws, checking/cleaning the points. and I got some new plugs laying around I'll throw in. Its a rochester double barrel.

I'd rebuild it again if it sat for that long. It sounds like the accelerator pump may not be working/ working correctly.

After it has idled a min or two then shut it down. look down the carb opening and rotate the throttle by hand and see if you have two solid strong squirts of gas. They need to be there or it will stumble as you come off idle. If you don't have them, then the accelerator pump is not working or as Pat said not working properly.

Check accelerator pump as said. If ok the I'd suspect a vacuum leak. Re check mounting studs/bolts and make sure they haven't loosened up. Did it do this before it sat or after?

X3 on accel pump.....rochesters were notorious for this. If you are getting STRONG squirts, vacuum leaks possible...... you can check for leaks with some FLAMMABLE carb cleaner.....spray the cleaner at joints and see if engine speed picks up. If it does speed up.....vacuum leak at that site....

As always..... BE CAUTIOUS when using flammable sprays in engine compartments.

If it only stumbles a bit make sure the linkage to the accel pump is properly adjusted. A little slack can affect things if the rod to the pump is not working so that any change in the throttle linkage results in movement of the pump linkage. How's that for a sentence!
