What gearing Do I have?

When I bought my '66 :v6: I was told it had 4.56 gears. How does one check what the gearing is? I read something about turning the wheel one time and counting something but did not understand. Thanks for the help!

    4.56 seems unlikely. Stock gearing for a V6 was 3.73 (?) or 4.88 IIRC.

It'd be hard to tell the difference between 4.88 and 4.56 by counting the wheel rotations. I'd suggest you either look at the tag on the front or rear differential (under the cover bolts) or look for the ratio stamped into the ring gear. To read the ring gear, you'll have to take the cover off. The number you'll see will be like "47 11" which is the number of teeth in the ring and pinion gear. Then, 47/11 = 4.27, the final drive ratio.

The PO told me that he had the aftermarket gearing installed when he did the 2.5" suspension lift. Could I still take the cover off and look at the gears? Where do I look and what do I look for?

Yes. Numbers on the outside edge of the ring gear.
