Looking for some guidance on any Venting Windshield experts on the site…
The opportunity to purchase one has come up, HOWVER, it requires substantial repair. Included in the deal would be an addition non-venting frame that the seller says can be used to retrofit the venting components on to. The price is steep (for a project) at $200 but I’m willing to come off the dime if this is a feasible solution. Unfortunately, I need to rely on pics to confirm condition so driving to it is not really a viable option.
Has anyone performed this type of repair before? Or does this sound like I would be better off waiting for a less laborious repair even if it costs more $$?

I have a venting windshield; never have had to repair it though( knock knock). I would suggest waiting. Its hard enough for those things to stay up let alone on a repair. windsield down is just as good.

The outer frame is the same as a regular windshields except for a few holes. Factory `fixed glass` windshields even have the screw holes for the venting ws inner frame latches.

If the spare frame is any good I`d say you`re getting a reasonable deal.

I have a windshield frame from a 66 that you are welcome to. I am a noob at this Jeep stuff so if this is not what you are looking for I apologize.

Here are some pics of the venting frame in question...

Is it "simply" a matter of removing the venting parts and installing them onto the non-venting frame? Rust on the inner frame is really my major concern since it's the primary reason for wanting one of these... and the inner frame appears to be unobtainium!

All there is to it is moving the hinge over, drilling some holes for the swing arms, fixing the latches to & plugging the excess holes (wiper mounts) on the standard frame.

    That`s it.

Were it me, it would be worth it. Vented W/S's are uber cool and don't come along very often. I'm rebuilding one now (kinda of an on and off process) and they are not hard. The inner rubber is avaliable from Peter Debella ($50 when I got mine). The extra frame will make it much eaiser. As far as the inner frame, you can do a lot with bit of Mig weldeing and a grinder.......

Man, if you could get the dimensions off it and find a fabricator that could reproduce those frames you'd make some serious $$$.

    I'm just sayin... :)
