I have a 1967 cj5 with an original oddfire v-6. Should I put lead additive in the fuel?

Thanks for any and all help on this.

I asked this same question a while back, but my engine is a 65 327. It was explained well, but I cant remember the exact reasons why. but the answer was no, that I shouldnt worry about that. something to do with the valve seats if I recall right. try doing a search for the thread. the answer came from corveeper.

If the valve seats are stock (if stock, they are actually part of the casting of the head), and have never been changed over to hardened seats in the 40-50 years of the engines life, then you need to run some sort of lead additive as this is what ultimately seats the valve and seals it. If at some point hardened seats were installed (done when the head is rebuilt) then you don't need leaded anything.

With current fuels you do not need to run an additive unless you have very high compression ratio. When unleaded fuel first came out it was necessary with the older hi pro motors.
Modern unleaded fuels have additives in them that make them actually better than leaded fuels. We've come a long way since then. It won't hurt to run an additive if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
