    Just starting a my first rebuild and looking for any tips. i would like to get it running first, but not sure where to start after that. Any help?

    It depends on what you want to do. Your Jeep looks pretty solid (you guys outside the rust belt are lucky). How bad is the rust? If it was mine, I'd check your steering, brakes, axles, and drive line first. Then pull the seats and have them reupholstered and then clean up the body and drive it. I just wish mine was that simple.

    The rust is not too bad. Under the fuel tank is bad as well as the rear tub. the panels are in pretty good shape, but need some work. The windshield frame is bad. the breaks are bad, but the engine is in good shape. i was thinking of replacing the seats. would you recommend reupholstering? Thanks for the advice.

    Your JEEP appears to be very original. The dash also looks unmolested and nice. I like it. I was told the seats are difficult to re up if the foam is bad because the foam is integrated with the springs. If the foam and springs are good, it should not be a problem to recover. I'd keep the JEEP clean and original if it were me but, it's yours and you should make it how you want it. I would upgrade the brakes to 11" drums since it's a bolt on upgrade and the brakes need done anyway. There are plenty of them out there that have already been modified and, if I were building one for the trail, I would start with one that's already been cut up, drilled up, etc. Original, unmolested ones, like yours appears to be, seem to be getting less common and I like to see them kept that way. Again, that's just me and you can, and should, do as you please.

    What's the antenna for on the driver's side of the cowl? I am going to mount a two way radio antenna in the same spot on mine and would like to see how your's is mounted.

    I plan to keep it as close to original as possible, even the paint. the only thing i have been toying with is putting a spray on liner inside. i have found a place to get the original stickers for the dash as well. this jeep belonged to my Grandfather, who bought it new in 1970. I have a lot of fond memories as a kid riding in it through the mountains of NC.

    my only suggestions are to take pictures of everything the way it is now, disassembled and then when finished. You will be glad you did.

    I have been looking for a kit to overhaul the brakes, and i am not having much luck finding one. does anyone know if a brake kit for a 72 CJ would work for a 69 as well, where i could find one. Otherwise it looks like i may just have to piece it out. thanks for the help.

    11 inch brakes from a 72 will work for a 69. I swapped in 11 inch brakes from a postal jeep for my '69 10 inch brakes.

    R and P makes a kit if you don't want to scrounge your own parts:

    looking for thoughts on the oil bath filter. keep it or replace it with paper? I have never had any experience with them, so don't know much about it.

    I have been thinking of rewiring, but not sure if it is worth it. my current wiring seems to be working. still trying to figure out the flashers & turn signals. also one of my break lights is out, but looks to wired properly. wanted to get input from those who have done it.

    If your current wires are in good shape -- not cracked or brittle -- then there isn't much need to replace them. However, if you choose to do it, the new wiring kits they sell nowadays are a breeze to install. Expensive but simple.
