Anyone know where I can get a replacement for a 55 Cj5? Granted, I really don't need one and I'm just going to bypass it for now, but I'd like to have one. Checked Kaiserwillys and they don't carry one...my catalogs at work show replacements from mid/late 60's but nothing early like mine. I have the heater box that's mounted in the engine compartment. My heater control valve is also shot and can't seem to find a replacement for that either.

Post up a pic of your heater. I may be able to help you.

Kinda hard to say as there was no factory heater for 55/56 CJ5s available. Heaters were available designed to fit CJ5's & the factory actually put knockouts on the passenger side firewall that matched the plumbing & mounts for one model made by Harrison.

But Willys didn't actually sell the things.

Here's a pic of mine, I liked it so much I decided to build a whole Jeep around it :)

Are you going for a period correct restoration? Harisson (& other manufacturer's) heaters that are period correct show up frequently on ebay but no guarantee on the core after this much time. If you just want heat lots here swear by Mojave heaters, from all reports they seem way superior to the old Harrisons.

Or you could walk your old core down to the rad shop & see if they can fix it up.

If no heaters were available on a 55, then I'm beginning to believe my Jeep is a franken-Jeep like everyone else!

That's a factory Jeep heater. If you do a search here, you'll find a part number as this has been discussed many times.

That's a '57+ tub for sure, can't pin it down more than that from that pic though. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a core for it. However the factory style heaters don't work very well, again if you're more interested in heat than "being right" I'd say look at the Mojave.

Any ideas on a replacement heater control valve? This one is seeping. It looks like the piston has a retainer that screws out, so maybe it's rebuildable? The unit is brass.

I noticed that in your picture, and I sure don't have any ideas on it. Mine dosen't have such a thing. Curious as to what the purpose of it is? My guess is it allows you to control the flow, but I just don't understand why?

Also, make sure your heater core has the same dimensions as the one on ebay.

That valve is the type that was installed on some of the early jeep pick-ups. My '62 jeep truck has one like that mounted on the firewall.

Yep...those would work! All you need is something that will clamp down and operate the cable. For someone who asked, the point of the valve is to stop the flow of coolant to the heater core when you don't want or have heat on...even if the blower is off, air pressure from movement still will push some heat into the cab. It's not 100% needed, but it helps.

Go down to your local parts store and get a Murray Climate Controls catalog. They have picture sections with all the dimensions for heater cores and valves. Everco was another supplier with a similar catalog, but they are out of business. NAPA probably has something like that also. Evening readingR)

At work, years ago, we used to have our garage install a similiar valve so we could shut off the water flow in the summer to keep the cab a little cooler.

Thanks for the information, learn something new every day. I guess since I have headers on mine, shutting off the flow to the heater core won't help with the heat in my cab.:) Can't wait to take the top off for spring/summer/fall!
