    Hi again,

I am trying to clean up and paint the motor while it is out. I want to remove the pulley in front of the timing chain cover. I know that it is a 1 3/8 socket, but man is it on there. I have been hitting it with liquid wrench in hopes that it will free the nut up.

Is there a chance that this thing is a reverse thread nut?

FSM doesn't say anything about it being reverse thread on either the f4 or the v-6, maybe someone else has more info.

Nope-- not reverse thread. That thing is just very tight on there. Breaker bar with cheater or make access for a heavy rattle gun.

    Thanks!

That sucker is on there! I will keep shooting the liquid wrench and PB Blaster at it.

As long as you have the engine out, you can remove the clutch and pressure plate and bolt a long piece of angle iron with two holes in it to the flywheel in the back of the motor, to give a solid lever to push against while you try to get the nut off the harmonic balancer on the front of the engine. That's how I did mine.

    X 2 ... a 1/2" drive impact wrench should do it.

Thanks all. I got it off. My biggest concern was to see if it was a reverse thread nut. I did not want to screw something up. I am getting all the bits and pieces off and cleaning them up. I am going to go with a gloss black and red paint scheme. At this point I have given up on getting everything back original. I just want to get it as close as I can for as little cash as I can. It needs to be out of the backyard/garage and on the road.
