I have a rare rear Dana 60 for my CJ5 and need to find a dana 44 for the front. The rear Dana 60 is 60 inches wide w/4.56 gears and I need to find a mate. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks

AFAIK the 44 front was never used on a CJ.

The Waggy is what I've been hearing is best for my use. I knew that CJ's didn't come stock other than the Dana 25,27, and 30. I am trying to find a Dana 44 aprx 60" wide wms to wms to match the Dana 60 I found. Waggy's and Scout II's are looking like my best options. Anyone have these for sale close to WV???

    Thanks for all the help

Nothing wrong with a slightly wider track in the front. It will actually track better, turn sharper, and give tires a slightly different bite in mud, snow, etc. IIRC, my '71 had a 3" wider overall axle than the rear after I swapped in the D30. Tracked superbly.

If you're going to run 60" in the rear I certainly wouldn't hesitate to run 61" up front.

Yep, at that point your already way out there whats an extra 1" or so, nobody will even notice it.

Most cars have a wider front track than rear. And an inch difference won't be noticeable.

    Thanks Guys!!!
I'll now be looking for a 74-79 Wagoneer front axle. I appreciate the info. I'll try and post some pics as I go. It's gonna be fun.

These are pics of the jeep when I bought it. I had to ratchet strap axles under this to load her lol. This thing was filthy after sitting in a barn for 2years.
This is what I plan on putting the Waggy front 44 and the rear 60 under with 42" Rockers. I have lots of work ahead of me!!! I have to get this done by May for the 4X4 Jamboree near Lima, Ohio.

My jeepin bud installed a 44 in his CJ.. I don't know where he got the thing, but he cut the tube on the short side and rewelded the end back on.. I think he may have had to re-locate the spring perches as well. He also had a new spline cut on ther short side axle.

I plan on installing better axles and u joints in my 30.. Some day

Any stock D44 you want to use will have to have the springs outboarded.
Also, you're looking at 42" tires, that is a big tire and would probably work better on fullsize axles and a D60 if you like the skinny pedal.
Hummer rims with lots of offset can help pull them back in on FS axles and the added bonus of double beadlocks.
FYI. a Chevy D44 with 4" cut off the long side is ~63" and allows you to bolt it under a Jeep (27.5 spring center to spring center). The Chevy housing also has spring perches set up for a SOA and will use off the shelf Waggy long side for an axle.

Finally found some time to pull the this inline 6 so I can drop in a 360!!! I'm so excited to finally get this project started!! Here are some pics. Check out my buddy and his new engine for his YJ. When I bought this the engine had just been rebuilt and bored .40 over. Hopefully it was!!! Anybody know the cheapest place to pick up the frame side motor mount/passenger side??

Keg worked perfect for a stand lol---brings new meaning to Keg stand!!! I needed height to get the temporary front axle out.

    Thanks

A suggestion that will help some. Remove the fenders and grill. Doesn't take much and gives you a lot more room to work, especially if you're welding in motor mounts.

You can unbolt the front fenders and pull the whole clip off at once. Easy Peazie.

    Totally AGREE!!!

Definite suggest pulling front clip and as much other gear possible. The key is "The more room the better". My front Dana 44 with Detroit full locker" and Dana 60 rear with detroit full locker" have proven INVALUABLE"!

    You wall be satisfied! :flag:
