Have any of you upgraded your tied rod and used heim joints?

How long of 1" o.d DOM tubing should i buy? where am i supposed to measure on each side of the axle to get the right length.

what type of heim did you use? did you drill out the diameter of the hole to 5/8's?

here is a catalog you can reference parts for me. many thanks!

A question I have to add on to your question involves the steering stabilizer mount. With a larger OD tie rod and drag link, whether Rugged Ridge or custom, where do you find the appropriate steering stabilizer bracket?

well ,this is coming from experience , I would not go your route . I got the HD kit from Big Daddy Offroad ,I feel it was pretty cheap for what you get at $160? a few years ago , it's the NT tierod and draglink thats 1 1/4" solid and powercoated .good stuff and has held up for me VERY well , they make them for the WT also . and I just use regular MOOG($$) greasable ends and keep spares in the trail box. I also did a tierod flip from goferit.com those 3 were $15 apiece. by the time you buy the dom,the threaded ends and the good($$$) heims you still not getting the best (I feel) and the Heim squeak bad even the expensive ones.

I had no problem bolting my aftermarket stabilizer to the bigger bar worked just fine..

I had heim joints on my old Jeep. Personally, I'd never do it again. I made my own tierod and draglink using 1 1/2" x 1/4" wall DOM tubing and Chevy TRE's. Heim joints were not designed to be used in a "single shear" application. Do yourself a favor and use real tre's and don't try to re-invent the wheel like I did (and many others). If heim joints were better your Jeep would have come with them already on it. Check with PartsMike. He has pre-threaded dom tube for tierods and draglinks. That way you don't have to buy the threaded bungs to weld into the tubes.

Yes, I'd just replace the existing tie rods with heavier tubing and better TREs.

If your Jeep has to go through safety inspection, Heim joints may not pass. It depends on the laws in your state...

Also, if you want heavier duty tubing that you don't want to build then R&P will build them to whatever length you need. 503-557-8911.
They will build them for whatever ends you want to use. They also have the right and left hand threaded jam nuts too.

it looks like goferitoffroad has the inserts but not the tie rods. i can order the tie rod from bigdaddyoffroad and i have to get the moog from the jeep guy. kind of pricey for everything and thats still not including the draglink. i have a saginaw set up, will i have an issue with the flipped tie rod?

big daddy should sell a kit with both rods ,you don't flip the tr on the ps box.you might not need the flip depends on your springs arch .check and see if the thicker bar will clear the top of the spring at rest and motion . you should call nickmil's # and at least check $.which flip would you get those reamers are expensive and then you still need the insert. the ones I got were a drill through and weld in reversed bung.........
