Once I have it setup and running I plan to source anohter YJ tub so I can eventually graft it all back together so it will be a CJ6 again. For now I just want to get it our wheeling, so once I've done this and got the brute bug out of my system it'll be redone down the line. How long I don't know but it'll happen eventually.;)

Grafting the YJ tub and turning the YJ fenders into skins for my tube fenders. I'm going to cut the top off of the YJ tub to align it with the CJ cab and then reinforce it with box tubing to match the CJ's lip. I also started cutting up a CJ hard top to make a top for the half cab.

Ddid you ditch the YJ for the rear? I assume you are going to skin the tube frame instead? Great thread by the way. I was on the Big Island in October. I'd sure like some of that weather here right now.

Yeah ditched the YJ tub, just didn't look right. I'm going to use expanded steel to cover the sides and checker plate for the deck.
For some reason the CJ top sits high on the jeep, I'm probably going to lose that as well and just run a bikini top.

Posimoto if you ever visit again or anybody else that visits the Big Island shoot me an email or pm and I'd be more than happy to show you some of the lesser traveled paths seen by tourists. Most of the rental jeeps can make the trek.

This is my inspiration for the tube bed, this jeep is sexy!

Hey roc, I was reading your other reply about it taking you up to 8 years to finish your jeep, looks like mine is starting to run on the long side of getting done! Hope it doesn't take me as long as yours!

I hope it doesn't take you that long either.....it seems longer during the build.

It's kinda even tempered my thinking as to what I want to do next. I'm really thinking I don't want that involved a project next time.

I see why you were inspired with that expanded metal bed, looks pretty cool.

Keep pluggin' away at it, you'll get there. If I hadn't finally started painting just pieces (fenders, hood, etc.) I would never have finished it. Seeing color is finally what inspired me on mine.

Thanks for the encouraging words! Once this is done I'm taking a long break and just wheeling it.

I'm still slowly working on it, I've built a few XJ and ZJ's since I stopped working on the 6. Everything is basically done, I just need to weld in the seat supports and rewire my rear lights. I just finished building a YJ and have no other builds planned so I'm hoping to start back on it this summer.

I also like the extended cab look of the yellow Rubi, not a fan of the bed though.

I finished building it and sold it to fund the purchase of my JKU, was torn between keeping it and getting a really nice JKU. The smooth ride and comfort got the best of me. Even after installing a 4.5" lift it still out rides my CJ6 with the wagoneer springs. I know its not fair to compare the 2 but with old age I'm beginning to enjoy the comforts when offroading!

    I can't say I blame you.

When I had the luxury of enough space to store a lot more rigs, I had my four door pathfinder with AC, auto transmission, power brakes, power steering, IFS, Leather interior, heat, etc.

Some days it was nice to just get in a rig with all the comforts to wheel.
