Thanks to this forum I was able to find a heater core (Vista-Pro Part #399204 (which is our only heater core cross-listed with part #9204)), which is listed as the correct heater core for:
    JEEP CJ3 (1960 - 1966)
    JEEP COMMANDO 1966
    JEEP DISPATCHER (1964 - 1967)
    JEEP JEEPSTER 1966
    JEEP UNIVERSAL (1961 - 1967)

Now the problem is that the first heater core I ordered was wrong but so was the blower motor.
    The question:
Does anybody have the correct blower motor number or know if the one for application above will work?
Any clues on why my jeep has this style heater core as it is factory stock and the manufacturers insist it is not correct.

Do you have a pic of your heater? Maybe someone has modified it in the past or something else weird is going on.

I can assure you that there has been no modifications to this rig. I bought it from the original owner, it has 64k miles on it and spent most of its life as a yard ornament.

Motor compartment, note the heater box is right lower.

There is no exact replacement blower motor for that heater. The stock one is a 2 speed motor with 2 wires coming out. The one listed in the part stores I have been told will work with some modification. Mainly the new noe is about 2 inches too long or tall. I bought one but didn't use it. I had my stock one rebuilt at an alternator repair shop. If you want to go with one of those new motors there is a write up on here about how to do it. It involves reversing the brushes so it will run backward, cutting out a wood spacer and wiring the low speed connection with a resistor

You've got the right one. Here's mine

I wouldn't worry about what the "manufacturers" say. They didn't own jeep when this was made anyway.

There's not much out there as far as easily obtained reference material for older jeeps, but believe it or not, the off the shelf Haye's manual shows this heater. Show them that. My heater core was bad and the radiator shop I took it to found a new one.

I have seen some older jeeps with that heater that had cores with 90deg elbows on the outlets, but that may be for 4 banger application, I don't know
