Heater control, where does this bracket go?

    Greetings,

I am starting the restoration of a '59 CJ5. It appears to be very much stock the way it is but I can't figure out where this bracket is supposed to mount. It holds the cable for the heater temp control and it is just dangling in the air right now. I can't find anywhere on the firewall or fender well where it may have originally been mounted.

Looks like a part from a truck or wagon. Early CJ's usually had a valved "T "fitting screwed into the right rear corner of the head. Turn the valve in to shut off, or out to allow for heated water to circulate thru the heater.

Thanks for the reply. Any ideas where I can get my hands on an original (or replica) that goes to the head? I've looked all over my engine and I don't see anything like that. The heater core leaks and I had thought about bypassing it altogether (I don't plan on driving it in bad weather) but I would really like to make it as close to stock as possible.

    Thanks again.

Oh OK I see what you are talking about now. Mine may have had a manual valve like that, although the cable for the temperature control still needs to go somewhere. I'll keep the piece that's on there but mount it to the firewall or something, it may not be stock but very few people would ever know.

    Thanks for the help.

I was wondering that same thing myself when I was putting mine back together. I found a couple of pictures that others had taken but they seemed consistent. The valve just sort of hangs out there in space. Yours seems a little different than mine (mine is the same as the one pictured). You seem to have an extra bracket. I do agree that if you have three cables, they have to go somewhere.

I had the same bracket as the first pic before I bypassed the heater due to a core leak. I can't remember exactly, but I seem to think it was fixed to the front head bolt somehow. Was supposed to send it to Billy when I sent my heater controls to him. Couldn't find it. I bet if I did, the other bracket would still be on it..........

I believe the one in the first picture is a fire wall mounted valve for Wagons and maybe trucks. I have one I took off a parts Wagon anyway, and I've see a few other Wagons with the same valve.
