I have a 71 CJ5 that is bone stock V6 4spd that has cracks in the frame horns where the front shackles connect. I am looking at fabricating a piece to bridge across the horns and tie it all together but wondered if there is a better fix. Wondered if there might be a winch mount plate or similar that would serve this purpose and be a bolt on.
(I put pictures in an album in my account but could not figure out how to put them here - guidance appreciated)

Top of every forum section there's a how-to on posting pictures from Photobucket. Unless you have them in your album here?

well my frame didnt crack but i did make a winch mount that went across. i used 1/2 inch plate and also plated down on the inside and outside of each frame horn, it was way way over kill, and it was a real nightmare to drill through all that metal. but i think you could use something a lot thinner to do the job.

That is a pretty common area for cracks, mine did the same thing, actually the shackle hanger came off in my hand! Drill a hole at the end of the crack, grind a v notch along the length of the crack, then weld it up, plate over the crack with a piece of 1/8in.

You can post them in a thread using the Image button in the editing window. Copy the URL of the image by right clicking on the image in your album and copy image location.

Then hit the image button here and paste the URL. Hey-presto!
