I just installed the same exact distributor in my '72 and love it. Jeep runs like its brand new (old dist was on last leg as with plugs and the wires). She fires up in half the time she use to, can lug her down without thinking she is going to die, and has quite a bit more umph then the old set up. Granted the new plugs and wires helped too, but all in all, I loved swapping it in. Great write up by the way

Just so I'm clear on this......you are saying that the drive gear on the new dist is "hardened"? And you are recommending that you should use the gear from the factory dist?? I did'nt get a dist with my 360 when I bought it. My cam gear lasted 1000 miles and it was toast. I guess my option is to get a aluminum/bronze drive gear from Summit to replace the hardened one. I've already replaced the cam gear with one from Kennedy American and they could not tell me what material it was made from....:? Really don't want to go through that cam gear replaement again. It jumped time and backfired when it shut down and I was lucky that it did no damage to the valve train.

Now why would that matter? Chevy 250 HEI was mounted at an angle. Electronics and advance weights don't care.

JYG is VERY opinionated, everything he says shouldn't be taken as gospel.

You can get matched sets of gears from www.bulltear.com

That's they way I would go.

Its pretty easy to tell what the gear is made from. If its bronze it should be non magnetic yellowish and easliy scratched with a file. If its aluminum it should be a dull silver, non magnetic, and easily scratched with a file. If its steel it should be darker silver, attract a magnet, and harder to scratch with a file. And if its hardened it should be very dark, attract a magnet, and very hard to scratch. (This is just a basic guide guide and may not be 100% accurate for al lcases.)

but yes, I would reccomend getting a factory style bronze gear.

FYI: you are not the first person I've seen that happen to.
