Well i put a spare stereo i have in my ammo can and boy is it a bit small for it. I am using a 50 caliber ammo can right now and if i mounted the stereo in it i will only have a very very small opening for stuff in the can besides the stereo. So I am looking at the tuffy consoles. it will be better for me to get one already made and ready for the stereo, have it lockable and some cup holders ;) The wife pretty much OK'd the purchase, i just am wondering how good the quality is and where would be the cheapest place to get one?? I priced directly from Tuffy adn they want $290. Quadratec wants $254 for one, i am just looking to get a little cheaper. And what the heck is the color codes?? I cant find what code is for black :(

    Thanks!!!!

Check eBay. I've seen them go for very reasonable prices there.

Thanks timmy!! I found the one i like but it is still pricy for the buy it now, but if i can get it for the start price that would be nice. I wonder how good the Smittybuilt ones are?? They have them for alot cheaper in the magazines and ebay, i wonder if they are worth it.

I have a Tuffy in the M715, like it a lot. They are the most expensive but provide the best security. I also got the model that has a spot to mount a radio in it. I got mine new off an ebay auction. Seemed to be the cheapest way to get one. And the cupholders turned out to be great. Didn't think I'd care about that but there's no where else to put them in a military truck like that!

Dan, I've got the one with radio mount in it and love it, may be a tight fit in a 5 though.
    Code for black is 01.
Got mine from Krage, they were the cheapest around.

How much did it run for you?? I actually got plenty of room since i do not have stock monuts, i have about 12 inches of space between seats so i can get the wider one.

    Dan,

I have one in my YJ. I really like it. Very good construction.

I put my CB in the radio slot. Get the cup holders. Mine hold really big cups with ease.

I also have rear wheel well storage boxes, the ones that will hold 6x9 speakers. Again, nice construction, sturdy. They secure the speakers well.

I got mine from krage, didn't see it cheaper anywhere else. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again, it is very well built. Having somewhere lockable to keep things in the CJ is a huge convenience.

I also ran my fuel pump / engine kill switches into the center console as an added security - just switch them both off and lock it up.

I bought a cheap one for my YJ. Then I splurged for the 10" wide Tuffy console for the CJ. Wow what a difference. That $60 console just is so not worth the trouble of not being able to have a cup of coffee not spill and bounce all over the place (boy that was a lot of double negatives).

I then got the dual overhead radio box and man is that CJ stylin'!

I couldn't imagine that I would spend upwards of $500 on cupholders and stereo/cb mounts but I am so glad I did.

just look the other way when your shelling out the dough - it pays for itself with happiness.
