    Hi all,

Part two of my spare tire mount discussion. The tub on my CJ5 - 1958 - does not have the "hat channel" welded inside the right rear fender area. Is this a "part" I can order? has anyone done anything in the shade-tree mechanic spirit for this job other than the hat channel in order to internally support the spare mount and prevent damage?

    Thanks in advance!

I mounted my spare tire to the passenger side looked good out of the way, until I got into some heavy 4wheeling with trees, all went good until I cut the front to miss a tree, I was on a bad steep hill could not stop
and swung the rear just enough to let a tree grab my spare, and I’ll tell you that tree acted like a grizzle bear on a fresh kill it did not let go till that tire was bent around to almost a 90* out from where it was, pulled the tire & mount off on the trail there was no way to proceed with one big dumbo ear sticking out on my jeep. Now the tire is back on the rear.
Just what happened to me. Good luck with yours.

mine had been cut out by the P.O.
my welder lady friend put some 3"x1" c channel that went from the rear corner where it starts to bend to the wheel well and another piece running up and down to make an X.
i drilled through that and mounted my carrier.

    P.S.
i try real hard not to tear my spare off by hitting trees or rocks with it.
    but then again.
    just like my sig sez.

no hard wheelin just a cool old ride.;)
