resto on the 56 is going very well(pics soon) however, while seperating the transfer case from the tranny i forgot to take the mainshaft nut off and remove the gear in the transfer case, when i began to seperate the cases it pulled the main shaft back and i heard a deafining " ting" as one or more of the roller bearings where the mainshaft rides inside the main drive gear fell out. this isent going to be a real difficult fix,( i hope and pray) but it seemed odd to me that the mainshaft would seperate that easily from the main drive gear. i'm just wondering if this thing is missing a snap ring at the rear of the mainshaft. i'm pouring over schematics today to double check. any thought's?

Nope it happens! No big deal just make sure you get all the needle bearings back in. If you are going to have it apart for a while wire the main shaft to the case so it doesn't happen again.

Well if there is a snap ring holding them together, I have never seen one. I have been into T-90's several times and they would always slide apart easily. That is why I take the top off and wire the slider to a front bolt to keep that from happening.
