Gas Fill Relocation

    I need to move my gas fill from the back passenger to the passenger side of my '73 CJ5. Has anyone done this??? I was wandering if the fill nozzle from a 97-02 TJ would work, the distances seem to be correct I am not sure about the diameter of the fill tube though. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated before I bought $75 in materials from a TJ and started cutting.

    I want to put the 4" Flush mount Tail lights, and I either will have to move it down or over to the side. I have found that the TJ's fill is 7" in Diameter. This is too big for the CJ-5 Rear panel, but from my measurements it looks like a CJ-7 Fill (supposed to go on back) will mount on the passenger side with a custom fill hose.

    I put a tj stainless filler and re used the original filler from my 71. I just had to modify it a little bit by welding on a collar around the filler so I could bolt it to the tj filler cover. Here is a picture

    Those are exactly what I was looking for.... what did you do for hoses.... Any specific year I should ask for, or just buy them straight??? Both fillers look great... I have a nice rust spot on that back side of the jeep that can come out for the gas fill, it should work perfect.... Thanks for the posts...

    I don't know what year mine came off - IIRC I just tried to match the year tank I bought, which was the later style CJ. I believe it has around a 1.25" main hose with a smaller vent hose, while the earlier rear tanks had like a 2" filler hose.

    For hoses I went to an industrial supply shop, where they sold Gates brand rubber hose that was rated to carry gasoiline. I was told to stay away from regular old radiator hose as it would swell/burst.

    Keep in mind there's a support brace right in that location originally meant to add strength for the side-mount spare.

    I just went to a heavy equipment supply parts place for the hose it was just straight hose that was rated for gasoline.
    It was real tough to bend but it hasnt leaked yet and doesnt slosh out when you accelerate like the original mounting did

    Yeah, you can get the straight hose at a heavy equipment place or a boat supply. It's expensive, but you don't need very much. Use metal (exhaust pipe) for the bends and long runs. FSJers use the fuel hose to replace the long molded fill hoses from older vehicles. http://www.goodyearbeltsandhose.com/truck/fuel.html
