Has anyone heard of retrofitting a Judson supercharger onto a f 134? I know I may be dreaming but I think Kaiser used these years ago but I don't recall what motors they were on. They were popular additions to corvairs, VW, ford flatheads, volvo, etc... I would like to purchace one with enough volume for a f 134. If you can't tell, I like off the wall projects that mean nothing to the real world. I just see it as a challenge. If anyone has one please let me know. I would be interested in it.

Never heard of a Judson ... Paxton, yes. IIRC the Paxton was used with the 226 cid Super Hurricane flathead 6.

Dick Datson has a book on superchargers/turbochagers on Kaiser-Willys engines that you might like: http://www.gatorsuperchargers.net/books/books.htm

Had a judson blower on my Renault back in the early 60's and made it sound like an airplane. NEATO. Loved that thing and simple to install. Eventually blew head gasket tho. If you find one and try it , would like to see pic's.

One on eBay right now, $400 + change and rising.

You got me reading up on these things on the net, apparently they're a vane type compressor, only turning at engine rpm. If you could find some design info it wouldn't seem to be a really "out there" project to actually build a copy.

The one on ebay is made for a small vw engine 1300-1500 cc. roughly 80-90 c.i. I would need one bigger. Possibly off of corvair which was 164 c.i. Maybe another one or two out there as well. You can overdrive the units, then you produce more heat and burn them down. Since my motor rarely sees 4000 rpm, the smaller supercharger may work. I will have to do the math on it. VW engines were rated at 4200-4600 rpm. The airflow might be sufficent. The judson made around 5.5 lbs of boost in stock trim. I sure would like to find one.

IIRC the judson's required an oil source in the intake path to keep the blower lubed, these are usually harder pieces to find than the superchargers themselves.... something to keep in mind

Marvel mystery oiler. Yes, they are usually purchaced separately but not uncommon to find.

Good luck finding a Judson for a Corvair. A semi-complete kit will bring upwards of a grand. I know of a NOS complete Judson that I'm guessing sold for at least 2 grand, only the seller and buyer know what it went for. $1,200-$1,500 seems to be about average. Unless of coarse, you come across someone who doesn't know what they have or where to advertise for big money. My first Corvair was a 61, currently have a 66 Corsa vert.

Nice looking corvair. I won't need a complete kit. Just a compressor and oiler. The rest will have to be fabbed anyways. No sence buying somthing you don't need.

I did some more digging, couldn't find anything on the Judson for numbers but I did come up with some figures for "Shorrock" units, also vane types that were after the same market as Judson,

    http://www.bcsc.co.uk/info/superch.html

    The interesting stuff is here-

    http://www.bcsc.co.uk/info/supercharging/section7.pdf

The smaller unit is probably equivalent to the VW Judson, the larger unit more in line with what you'd need for a 134. Going by their specs Iffin I did the math right (fat chance:rofl:) for a four vane compressor you need about 23 cubic inches displacement, reducing to 17 c.i. to match their figures.

I found out I will need a judson from a Triumph, mercedes, volvo, or possibly even the corvair. The search continues. Anybody have one hiding in the basement?

    Have you seen this site-

    http://vwjudsonregister.tripod.com/site_map.htm

Mostly aimed at the VWs but they also have quite a bit of info on other installations as well. They do have a Corviar unit on their forsale board, $$$.

If you do mange to come up with one & get it installed please post about it, you've really got my interest tweaked on this :).
