dohc281 It is what it is.

The second Pertronix for my Hurricane died, I like not having points but the thought of spending another $100.00 doesn't sit well with me, the second kit was replaced under warrenty but there isn't any warrenty this time. Just my $.02 cents worth.

Can't go wrong with points. Just make sure you keep a spare set in the glove box in a zip loc bag.

Seems odd that you'd have two go bad. That's not the most common experience with this part.

Does your coil have the internal ballast? If it doesn't it could be burning up the units.

The following is a quote from me on this subject just a couple of days ago.

When I did mine, I hooked it up and cranked it. It immediately blew the pertronix unit.. fried it. smelled smoke. No spark after initial key turn. It ended up being a brand new coil I just installed was bad and fried 3 pertronix units before I figured it out. I went back with the cheap plain NOS coil and the next new pertronix has worked like a charm since. Not saying that's the problem. Just wanted you to know what happened to me.

I used a pertronix flame thrower coil that was supposed to be the real thing, but alas... it cost me about $250 bucks in the end.

Stick with points, condenser, cap, rotor, & coil (well padded) in an ammo can under the passenger's seat (your tool box will hold four of em). we'll be the only ones driving in the event of a nuke strike.

Well I've gotta go, busy day, gotta make a new tin foil hat and get back to work on my Y2K bunker, yeah, I procrastinate a bit.

FWIW Pertronix clearly specifies that you need 12 volts to the unit, not the reduced voltage from a ballast resistor.

I learned the hard way that you can cook a Pertronix unit by leaving the key on without the engine running.

Despite the issues that some folks have had with them, it's still on of the best mods you can make to an early Jeep.

I've had problems setting up mine but I still agree! This is a great mod once you get it set up right!

I parked the Jeep and the next time I tried to start it it wouldn't. It's got me beat.

    Ira,
at this point I would suggest that you take a series of good pictures of your electronics set up and post them so we can take a look. Sometimes somebody else can pick up on something right off that was overlooked.

Also I know your frustrated with it, but what coil are you using? Is it new, is it used or what. Have you changed the coil since the first burned up pertronix?

And give us a detailed description of your problem.

When you parked it, was it running then? And you go to start and it doesn't start. Does it fire? Crank over? Give us more details and don't give up... somebody will know just what to do.
