I just installed a set of Disk Brakes on my 1973 CJ. The CJ has the double Master Cylinder already on it. I understand I need to remove the Residual Pressure valve on the MC. How do I do that? Also, do I need to add a proportioning valve? I've read where some do and some don't.

As a side note: DO NOT, under any circumstances, buy anything from Horse Power Sales-where I bought my brakes. They have the absolute worst customer service I've ever encountered. They simply do not return Calls or e-mails. Be warned!

Yes pulling the residual pressure valve from your front line will work. You remove the tube seat from the outlet port of the MC,remove valve and spring and reinstall seat.
BUT, you will have poorly proportioned brakes, your rear WILL end up doing most of the braking effort. Switch to a MC from a 82 cj with manual discs, and swap over the pushrods and install a adjustable proportioning valve. Ran this setup for years till i swapped over to power brakes.

In looking on the net for an 82' MS, the photo of the MS looks like the brake lines exit from the left side of the MS. Mine exit from the right side. Is that just a photo error? or do I need to reroute my lines with the 82' MS?

I used one from a 78 CJ and the lines do exit towards the motor.

Well, I'm still in a quandry. I just went to the local Zone and all the photos showed fender side hose. Do you have a make/part number for your engine side hose MS?

One more question. I'd like to add the Proportioning Valve. Where do I put that? I assume between the MS and the front AND rear lines. Again, a part # would be great.

Just ordered the P Valve. Thank for the info. I installed a MS from an 87 CJ. Seems to fit just fine. I installed my push rod. We'll see.
